The Passage by Justin Cronin joins a growing number of vampire thrillers. There is nothing romantic, however, about Cronin's villains. He paints a pictures of a post-apocalyptic world where a small colony of human survivors stay protected from the "dracs" by a massive barrier of lights that repel the demons. The lights will soon fail, though, and the humans must find another way to survive.

Things get weird when he begins to see vision of a dead tyrant by the same name as the man whose life he is documenting.
