Fellowships promote highly qualified young researchers in all academic fields. A fellowship is a personal, non-transferable award and is limited to a maximum of two years. Duration: maximum 26 months. Application deadline: anytime. The German Research Foundation (DFG) promotes research projects in all academic fields. Factors which are considered to be important by the DFG include academic excellence, the promotion of young academics, interdisciplinarity and internationality. The research community uses the "material allowance" instrument to support specific research projects of a limited duration.
Academics at German research facilities involved in any subject area with a completed academic education, i.e. doctorate, are addressed. Applications for a 3-year sponsorship can be submitted. It should however be noted that the DFG only awards grants for abroad and for a post held in Germany. Financial resources are available for staff funds, for scientific equipment, expendable material, travels, other costs and publications.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
• German researchers from all disciplines who have completed their academic qualifications (doctorate).
• International researchers from all disciplines who have completed their scientific training (doctorate).
Provided they have been resident in Germany for several years and have completed at least three years of scientific work as a doctoral or postdoctoral researcher in the German research system and state that they wish to continue to pursue their research in Germany in the future.
Limitations apply to young researchers who, at the time of application, are abroad. As an exception, senior researchers holding a doctorate may submit proposals to allow them to dedicate themselves to a research project of particular importance.
Benefits summary: provide staff funds, scientific equipment, travel, publication costs, other expenses.
